What do you think about when you consider Creation? Our minds quickly go to the scientific, the cosmic, and the theories of how all came into being. More recently I have begun to associate Creation with love. Not just any love, but eternal love in both directions. By that I mean love that has no beginning and no ending. Scripture tells us that “God is love” (1 Jn 4:8). Our doctrine tells us that God is a Trinity (three Divine eternal Persons) that out of love created the universe, including the highest creation of all—mankind—us!
                  The first paragraph of the Catechism affirms this: “God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength.” One of the great joys afforded me is walking beside men and women who are exploring the Catholic Church and pursuing a deeper walk with Christ through the Sacraments. A couple of weeks ago we were talking about the Holy Spirit. One young man who is exploring faith for the first time expressed that he understood that we receive the Holy Spirit at Baptism, yet he without being baptized sensed the Holy Spirit moving on his life. How was that possible?
                  As we shared together, I reminded him that before God created all things, we were already chosen by him in love. Through the Holy Spirit God is constantly seeking us, calling us to himself, making himself known to us. The Apostle Paul expresses this so beautiful in Ephesians: “God…has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. He destined us in love to be his sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will” (Ephesians 1:3–6).
 In love we are chosen before we were created!
 
 

En el Amor Somos Elegidos Antes de Ser Creados
¿En qué piensas cuando consideras la Creación? Nuestra mente va rápidamente a lo científico, lo cósmico y las teorías de cómo todo llegó a existir. Más recientemente he comenzado a asociar la Creación con el amor. No un amor cualquiera, sino un amor eterno en ambas direcciones. Con esto me refiero al amor que no tiene principio ni fin.
Las Escrituras nos dice que “Dios es amor” (1 Juan 4, 8). Nuestra doctrina nos dice que Dios es una Trinidad (tres Personas Divinas eternas) que por amor creó el universo, incluyendo la creación más alta de todas: la humanidad, ¡nosotros!
El primer párrafo del Catecismo lo afirma: “Dios, infinitamente perfecto y bendito en sí mismo, en un designio de pura bondad creó libremente al hombre para hacerle partícipe de su propia vida bienaventurada. Por eso, en todo tiempo y en todo lugar, Dios se acerca al hombre. Llama al hombre a buscarlo, a conocerlo, a amarlo con todas sus fuerzas”. Una de las grandes alegrías que me brinda es caminar al lado de hombres y mujeres que están explorando la Iglesia Católica y buscando un camino más profundo con Cristo a través de los Sacr mentos. Hace un par de semanas estábamos hablando del Espíritu Santo. Un joven que está explorando la fe por primera vez expresó que entendió que recibimos el Espíritu Santo en el Bautismo, sin embargo, sin ser bautizado, sintió que el Espíritu Santo se movía en su vida. ¿Cómo era posible?
Al compartir juntos, le recordé que antes de que Dios creara todas las cosas, ya habíamos sido elegidos por él en amor. A través del Espíritu Santo, Dios nos busca constantemente, nos llama a sí mismo, se nos da a conocer. El apóstol Pablo lo expresa de manera tan hermosa en Efesios: “Dios... nos ha bendecido en Cristo con toda bendición espiritual en los lugares celestiales, así como nos escogió en él antes de la fundación del mundo, para que fuésemos santos e irreprensibles delante de él. Él nos destinó en amor a ser sus hijos por medio de Jesucristo, según el propósito de su Voluntad”  (Efesios 1, 3-6).
 ¡En el amor somos elegidos antes de ser creados!
